Method

Activity data

Activity data are taken from consumption data given in official Energy Balances for Germany (AGEB, 2012) [1].

Table: Sources for consumption data in 1.A.4.b ii

Relevant years Data Source
through 1994 AGEB - National Energy Balance, line 79: Households
since 1995 AGEB - National Energy Balance, line 66: Households

Within the National Energy Balances (NEBs), due to missing separate consumption data for mobile sources in households and gardening, activity data used for estimating emissions is of poor quality only. Especially for earlier years, AD is based uopn rare statistics on sold machinery resulting in a cascaded AD time series.

Trend discussion for Key Sources

NFR 1.A.4.b.ii - Mobile Sources in Household and Gardening is no key source.

Recalculations

Emissions reported for 2010 had to be recalculated due to a revised 2010 National Energy Balance. Compared to submission 2012, EFs remain unchanged .

Uncertainties

Uncertainty estimates for activity data of mobile sources derive from research project FKZ 360 16 023: "Ermittlung der Unsicherheiten der mit den Modellen TREMOD und TREMOD-MM berechneten Luftschadstoffemissionen des landgebundenen Verkehrs in Deutschland". For detailled information, please refer to the project's final report here (German version only!).

Uncertainty estimates for emission factors were compiled during the PAREST research project. Here, the final report has not yet been published.

Planned improvements

Due to a routine revision of the TREMOD MM (Mobile Machinery) model used, emission factors for off-road mobile sources will be reassessed.
In addition, particulate matter emissions from the combustion of gasoline will be included for the first time.
